Mobile Expo Panel: What is the Mobile Killer App

Ben Gibson (Cisco), Kurt Kruger (HP), and Matt Womer (W3C) are on this panel. Steve Lamont (Crimson Consulting Group) is the panel moderator.

Matt Womer: The embedded web browser that doesn't look like a web browser will be part of the next killer app.

Ben Gibson: Mobile mail (Blackberry) has already been the killer mobile app. Next killer apps will depend on "collar" (user) types: Blue collor, white collar, gray collar, no collar. Video is going to be part of the next killer app. But, more bandwidth is needed.

Kurt Kruger: Smartphones need to provide a better end-user experience. Unified communications is part of the next mobile killer app. He asked how many in the audience already used a unified communications system. Almost no one in the audience raised their hand.

Someone in the audience asked if what we're really waiting for is an open wireless network on which a killer app can be deployed?
