iPhone Tip to Add an Extension to a Telephone Number on your iPhone
The trick is to place a comma (,) between the main 10-digit telephone number (in the US) and the extension number. The comma is universally used as an indicator to pause dialing. My recollection is that it comes from the Hayes Modem command set that has, more or less, become an industry standard for dialing commands.
