Traveling with a Netbook: Thumbs Up!I used the Asus Eee PC 1000H netbook running Windows XP for this trip. And, it got a good workout. I carried it all day starting with breakfast (WiFi was available in the San Jose Marriott restaurant) and then for the entire conference day. I didn't carry its power cord and had plenty of power left at the end of each conference day (5pm on Monday and 4pm on Tuesday). This, I believe, was accomplished by setting Asus' SuperHybrid Engine to its power saving mode, sleeping the unit for short periods (it resumed 100% of the time), and turning it off for longer periods. WiFi was turned on and it use 100% of the time. Except for the left trackpad button not working on Monday (and is still a bit flaky), the 1000H worked out very well as my travel computer. Its lightweight and long lasting 6-cell battery were especially appreciated. And, it seemed to run cool enough in the air conditioned conference rooms for me not have any heat discomfort. I'm still running into apps that create windows deeper than 600 pixels and running off the bottom of the screen. But, I've been able to work around those issues so far. The LCD TV in my room looks like a 32 inch model. But, it only has S-Video and composite video in. And, in any case, I am not carrying any video cables with me. It would be nice if hotels provided a 19" LCD to plug notebooks and netbooks into. Email This Post | ||||
