Well, we should have figured that it was too good to be true. Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen's comment that his company is working on a version of Flash specifically for the iPhone now that the iPhone SDK is available, that is.

InformationWeek reports that Adobe quickly backpedaled, saying that, with the SDK, it can start working on a Flash player for the iPhone, but it will need Apple's help to do it up right.

InformationWeek received a clarifying statement from Adobe that said, in part:

"To bring the full capabilities of Flash to the iPhone Web-browsing experience, we do need to work with Apple beyond and above what is available through the SDK and the current license around it. We think Flash availability on the iPhone benefits Apple and Adobe's millions of joint customers, so we want to work with Apple to bring these capabilities to the device."
