AT&T to Officially Sponsor American Idol Again
Confirming yesterday's report about how the iPhone will be American Idol's official handset this year, AT&T will again serve as the wireless sponsor of the show, according to MediaPost. The show will again allow viewers to vote via text-messaging for their favorite contestants; 64 million users did just that last year, so this is quite a coup for AT&T. Some more details, quoted from the report: - AT&T will offer a host of mobile tie-ins including voting reminders, trivia, a TXT-n-Win sweepstakes promising the winner $50,000 in cash and a trip for two to the Idol series finale in LA. - Viewers can download ringtones and answer tones of the top 12 contestants' live performances and watch "Idol" audition videos on compatible AT&T phones. - AT&T will leverage the whole thing to push its MEdia Max data service for an extra $19.99 a month, including 200 text messages.
