Well, maybe I shouldn't have been so negative because AT&T Wireless' wireless service broke big time soon after for many people in my neck of the woods...

AT&T says Hawaii service problems may continue into tomorrow

I first thought it might be my iPhone and performed a soft reset twice. That didn't help, however. Then, I called AT&T and learned they were having some kind of unidentified wide area network problem. Voice service has been sporadically available on my iPhone. However, most of the time I simply have had no voice or data service. And, AT&T hasn't exactly been a transparent fountain of information. They are unable to describe the cause of the problem. They are unable to estimate when service might return. And, they are unable to explain why service loss differs across phone models.

Is it any wonder that we see articles with titles like this one from Betanews?

The tipping point: iPhone users turn against AT&T

The problems we're have over right now is not a unique problem. Betanews goes on to list a number of continuing AT&T Wireless network problems in New York and the great mid-atlantic area. I'm sure there are thousands and maybe millions of U.S. iPhone users who would be extremely happy if Apple sold the iPhone through some other carrier, any other carrier, anything other than AT&T.
