EU Buses to be Used as Mobile Sensing PlatformsAccording to European researchers, modern buses can be used as "mobile sensing platforms" that send out live information for controlling traffic and detecting road hazards, Slashdot reports. The 3.83 million euro EU-funded MORYNE project was completed in March 2008 with a test in Berlin, Germany, according to the post. "During this test, the researchers 'equipped city buses with environmental sensors and cameras, allowing the vehicles to become transmitters of measurements, warnings and live or recorded videos to anyone allowed to access the data.'" This jives with recent reports about new in-car GPS systems that can display road signs and optimize routes in real-time based on current traffic conditions. Either that, or Big Brother is out to track us all. Email This Post | |||||||||||
