Invasion of the Five-Megapixel Camera Phones
Who out there loves the photo quality of the camera in their cell phones? No one? We hear ya, and so does Wired. Noting that the "crummy, submegapixel imaging chips crammed into most phones today take awful-looking photos," the story highlights on how this year we're due to see a bumper crop of five-megapixel camera phones. They may even be good enough to replace low-end point-and-shoot digital cameras. The article goes on to list some of the usual high-end suspects from Nokia, LG, and Samsung. We'd like to add a caveat there and say that, as anyone who has shopped a digital camera recently has discovered, the number of megapixels doesn't matter if the lens is poor, there's no optical zoom, or if the built-in LED flash couldn't light up the inside of a paper bag. Still, this is the year we could reach a turning point. (Image credit: Wired) Email This Post |
