Qantas To Offer In-Flight E-Mail, SMS
The airline has hooked up with a company called AeroMobile, whose technology somehow makes it possible to use cell phones and other devices in-flight without interfering with on-board systems. As a result, passengers on some Quantas domestic flights will be able to send and receive e-mail and SMS messages, according to Cellular-news. Qantas expects to start rolling out the data services by year-end. Text messaging will require a GSM phone and a global roaming plan and e-mail access will require a device with GPRS, Qantas executive general manager John Borghetti said in the article. Although AeroMobile's technology also allows voice calls, Qantas won't offer the feature, at least not at launch. Email This Post |
