Younger Customers Flock to Mobile BankingThe Associated Press reports that while most Americans are still hesitant about banking with their cell phones and PDAs, young people are increasingly coming around to the idea of mobile banking, according to a new survey. Opinion Research conducted a survey of 1,424 adults in the U.S. aged 18 or older who owned a cell phone and a bank account. They found that 21% of customers aged 18 to 34 used their phones to conduct transactions, as compared with just 10% of the general population. Today, nine of the 10 top banks offer mobile banking to customers, the report said. "Bank of America Corp. has the most mobile banking customers - about half a million, according to Aite Group analyst Nick Holland. But setting up the technology is just the first step. Going forward, banks will need to stay ahead of the curve in terms of both reputation and technology." That's particularly important going forward; a recent Juniper report projected that the number of mobile banking transactions will go from 2.7 billion in 2007 to 37 billion in 2011. Email This Post |
