Kenya Gets Mobile TVSome folks in Kenya will soon be able to watch CNN, BBC World, some sports channels and more on their mobile phones. ITP.net reports that Kenyan telco Safaricom has partnered with satellite TV operator DSTV to launch that country's first mobile TV service. Initially available in Nairobi, the DVB-H service will offer 10 local and international channels. According to the article, the TV-enabled phones needed will cost roughly $403. The first month of the service is free for consumers who sign up by June 30. After that, the monthly fee is about $16. While on the surface, the cost is about the same as V CAST Mobile TV and AT&T Mobile TV subscribers are expected to pay in the US, Kenya has "a per capita GDP of just US$1,600," which will likely hamper widescale adoption.
