MobiTV Speeds Up Mobile Channel SurfingMobiTV has unveiled something it calls Optimized Delivery Server, back-end technology that's supposed to significantly speed the time it takes to switch channels on its mobile television service. According to an RCR Wireless News report, the company spent 18 months developing the system that automatically switches from unicast (streaming a channel to a single user) to multicast (simultaneously streaming the same channel to multiple users) when a large group of people in the same region tune in. The new Optimized Delivery Server cuts the channel-changing time to less than one second, whereas previous versions - and other services - can take up to 15 seconds to switch a channel.
