Anyone who has ever questioned the popularity of mobile social networks needs to check out some statistics from Opera Software. According to the company's new "State of the Mobile Web" quarterly report, 41% of mobile Web traffic is to social networks, VentureBeat reports. In the US, South Africa and Indonesia, the number rises to more than 60%.

Another 25% of the worldwide mobile Web traffic is visits to search engines and portals, Opera found.

The stats are limited to users of the Opera Mini mobile Web browser, but that's still a significant number. Its report shows that more than 11.9 million people used Opera Mini in March to peruse some 2.4 billion mobile Web pages.
