MocoNews reports that the UK's Times has promoted online head Brigid Callaghan to the post of editor of its mobile service. She will be responsible for developing news and features for mobile devices, the report said.

We're keeping an eye on mobile division staffing because we're seeing a variety of approaches. Some sites, such as MSNBC, may have a mobile division, but actually automate the creation of content so that it's taken from the regular desktop site and reformatted for mobile. This way the mobile site is in lock step with the desktop site, albeit there are fewer stories, smaller slideshows and less video on mobile. In this case, it looks like there will be someone specifically overseeing content (and not just technology) for the mobile site at the Times.
