Corel Providing Its Office Suite on USB Drive for Netbooks But Requires 768 Vertical Pixels - HmmThis item over on the Eee PC Blog caught my netbook-centric attention... Netbook Office Suite Launched by Corel I wondered what made Corel's office suite netbook friendly. My first guess was that they tuned their screens to fit in netbook screens. But, according to the Eee PC Blog, the netbook friendliness comes in the form of distributing it on a USB drive in addition to the more traditional CD or DVD disc format since netbooks don't have optical drives. I think Corel may run into a bit of a problem if their Home Office suite is marketed as netbook friendly though (btw, netbooks are not mentioned on the suite's product page). If you look at the... Corel Home Office System Requirements ...page, you'll find that the product requires a 1024x768 screen resolution. Of course, I expect it will still work fine on a netbook. But, since most current generation netbooks have either a 1024x600 or, even worse, 1024x576 displays, Corel Home Office is obviously not fine tuned for netbook displays. Fortuantely, we are seeing more netbooks catering to people who want to watch HD video (mininum would be 720p) and providing screen's like certain Dell Mini 10 models with a 1366x768 LCD display. So, the restricted netbook vertical pixel resolution issue may be a short lived one. Email This Post |
