Breaking: NY Times To Drop TimesSelectAccording to the New York Post, the New York Times has decided to drop its subscription service called TimesSelect, freeing up access to the Op-Ed columnists and other restricted content. The move is believed to be in response to stagnant subscription numbers - hovering around the 220,000 mark - and a possible anticipatory strike against Murdoch, who recently said that he thinks the WSJ should be free online. At the time of this post, the TimesSelect registration curtain on the Times site is still in place. But expect that when it lifts, it will also lift on the mobile site as well: mobile.nytimes.com Update: Corrected headline to reflect that it's a planned move, not one that was already in progress.
