Google Buys Microblogging PlatformFinnish microblogging service Jaiku has been acquired by Google (NSDQ: GOOG) for an undisclosed sum, according to an announcement on the company's site, MocoNews reports. Jaiku is similar to Twitter in that its users can send short messages and presence alerts back and forth. MocoNews said that this could be a good second go-around for Google, since the company already bought Dodgeball back in 2005. We're still inclined to think that there are way too many mobile social networking services out there, and that presence detection remains one of the standout features that could bring mobile users into the fold, once someone figures out a good implementation of it.
