Local TV Stations Go MobileMediaweek has a good "state of the union" story on mobile TV, with an eye toward the local TV station market. According to the article, in the last 18 months, an estimated 200 TV stations have begun offering consumers mobile TV packages they can receive on their cell phones. That's a huge number, considering that virtually all of the press on mobile TV covers the big, national networks, such as Fox News, ABC News, CNN, and so on. "Mimicking the offerings on TV station Web sites, consumers on the run can get top news stories, weather, traffic, sports scores, financial data, entertainment information (including movie show times) and even check the winning lottery numbers," Mediaweek reporter Katy Bachman said in the article. "They can sign up for text services that alert them to hyper-local information-like school closings, notification of a traffic delay on the commute home, or, for the sports fan, the final score of the big high school game-the instant it's available."
