Mobile TV Flops In EuropeSo much for Europe following Asia in the wireless industry. A new Reuters report states that "Europeans' interest in watching mobile television is as tiny as cellphone screens, a new study showed on Monday, even though the industry has been buzzing about offering TV on handsets for years." In the new study, only about five percent of Europeans expressed interest in watching television on their cellphones in the next year, compared with 20 percent for Asians. "I think the main reason is the compromise you are making on the device you need to carry to watch TV--either too big if you want a nice experience or too small and you do not have a good experience," said Carolina Milanesi, a Gartner analyst, in the report. There's also the scattershot mobile TV market in general, which is composed of different mobile TV standards, a wide range of business models, and limited cellular and broadcast bandwidth. All of that makes it unnecessarily difficult and expensive to watch mobile TV. TV On Cell Phones Bombing in Europe [Reuters via PC Magazine] Email This Post |
