Handango: Entertainment Top Smartphone Apps in '07Smartphone content provider Handango has released the 2007 Year-end Handango Yardstick. For the first time since the company has been tracking the market, entertainment content led the pack, moving up from third place a year ago. This, the company handily points out, signals a consumer shift in using smartphones not just as a business and productivity tool, but also as a way to keep themselves entertained. Overall, entertainment content was responsible for 17% of total sales, followed closely by business & professional content at 16%. The entertainment category may have been helped by the fact that more than 11,000 new BlackBerry applications were added to the Handango network last year. The BlackBerry Pearl and Motorola Q, both more mainstream smartphones, were among the top sellers in terms of revenue and units sold. In addition to its overall tracking, Handango also breaks things down into the top 10 apps for each of the five major smartphone OSes: BlackBerry, Palm OS, Symbian, Windows Mobile Standard and Windows Mobile Professional.
