San Francisco Chronicle editor-at-large Phil Bronstein alleged that The New York Times' inaugural Bay Area edition "borrowed" material for its flagship profile from a Chron story. Without outright accusing the paper of plagiarism, Bronstein wrote on his blog, "Here we are, always bitching about how Google or MSN or Yahoo is stealing our original content and making money from it. It doesn't really help our case if we're raiding closets and borrowing outfits from members of our own fraternity without at least asking." A response issued by the NYT calls the suggestion "ridiculous."
