Jane Root Out Front for HBO Gig (Hollywood Reporter)
Hours after Carolyn Strauss stepped down as HBO Entertainment president, the industry started churning out names of potential candidates for the job. British TV executive Jane Root has emerged as an early contender for the position. Root left her post as GM of Discovery Channel and the Science Channel in November.
Feds Indict Emmy-Winning TV Producer On Charges Of Massive Stock Fraud (Deadline Hollywood Daily)
Drew Savitch Levin, a currently working Hollywood producer who won both an Emmy and a Cable Ace award and was founder and CEO of the NASDAQ traded TV production and distribution company Team Communications Co, was indicted in L.A. yesterday. A federal grand jury fingered him for allegedly orchestrating a multi-million dollar scam to inflate the company's revenue and stock price.
Bay Area News Group Asks Staff to Devise a 'NewPaper' (SF Weekly)
Last week, MediaNews sent its Bay Area employees a memo detailing a bold restructuring plan. According to the March 12 memo, the key feature of the so-called "NewPaper Project" will be a task force of newsroom employees who will ask a series of fundamental questions about journalism in order to design an "innovative newspaper blueprint."

Daily Mail Makes Libel Payout to Billionaire (Guardian)
The Daily Mail yesterday paid Sheldon Adelson, described as the world's 12th richest man, "very substantial" libel damages and has been left with a hefty legal bill, according to his lawyers. The settlement comes after the Mail claimed that Adelson, the chairman and chief executive of Las Vegas Sands Corp, had engaged in cut-throat, ruthless and despicable business practices.
'Unsexiest' Sarah Jessica Parker Mad at Maxim (NYP)
"Sex and the City" star Sarah Jessica Parker says a Maxim Magazine poll that named her the "unsexiest woman alive" really, really upset her. The poll ranked Parker less sexy than Amy Winehouse, Sandra Oh, Madonna, and Britney Spears, and called the 43-year-old actress a "Barbaro-faced broad" a reference to the Kentucky Derby-winning racehorse.
