Timothy McNulty: Ever since the parent company of the Chicago Tribune bought the ball team in 1981, Tribune journalists have lived with the suspicion of bias, favoritism and conflict of interest in covering professional baseball in Chicago. Tribune Co.'s ownership of the Cubs has been a bane not only to those who write and edit sports pages, but to business and metro reporters as well.
Ryan Seacrest Denies Rumors of Talks to Take Over for Larry King (HuffPo)
Larry King hosted good friend and rumored replacement Ryan Seacrest Thursday night in an interview hyped by Seacrest saying they would "talk about everything," including the replacement rumors. King and Seacrest did discuss American Idol as well as other projects Seacrest is working on, but they flatly denied the rumor that Seacrest was in talks with the network.
Ratings Slip Threatens CW Network (WSJ)
Time may be running out for the CW network. Two years after CBS Corp. and Time Warner Inc. combined their second-tier networks UPN and WB into the youth-oriented CW to pool young viewers prized by advertisers, the network's hopes of surviving are looking increasingly bleak.
Potential Hartford Courant Buyer's Interest Cools (Reuters)
The one potential buyer for the Hartford Courant said on Thursday she is no longer interested in buying the daily newspaper from Tribune Co, unless there were some signs of financial growth. "If there is no growth potential, we are absolutely not going to be interested," said Cheryl Chase, executive vice president of Chase Enterprises, a Hartford-based real estate company.
