Former WWD Journalist Braunstein to Be Sentenced Today (Newsday)
Peter Braunstein was found guilty of kidnapping, robbing and sexually molesting his victim. In a letter sent to the judge asking for leniency, he described planning the crime conceding a key prosecution point but argued that he was mentally ill. "Once I attacked the victim, I had no idea why I was there, or what to do," Braunstein wrote state Supreme Court Justice Thomas Farber in the letter.
Fox Video is Sharable with Brightcove Player (Beet.tv)
Andy Plesser: Fox Television and Brightcove will announce today a major development in the distribution of online video by a mainstream television company: The integration of the Brightcove player in several Fox online video networks means far more than just streaming shows; it means that Fox videos can be shared and posted on other sites by providing a shareable imbed code.
Iraqi Journalist Found Dead as Security Lags (NYT)
The body of the political editor of a government-financed newspaper was found Sunday in the main Baghdad mortuary. The editor, Falieh Mijthab, 48, was kidnapped three days ago by armed men in a Shiite neighborhood of Baghdad as he drove to Al-Sabah, the daily newspaper where he worked.
The End of TV As We Know It (Popular Mechanics)
Glenn Derene: TV is evolving toward a more Internet-like medium. Digital television and video-on-demand are already virtually identical to streaming video, and Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) promises to eventually merge Internet and television technology. That may mean more targeted ads, but what may get lost is the sense of community that broadcast television introduced into our culture.
ABC's Gibson Establishes Scholarship (USAT)
ABC News anchor Charles Gibson urged Union College graduates to practice honesty and fairness Sunday and established a scholarship. "It sounds old-fashioned, but I will tell you there are ethical imperatives in this life," said Gibson. "Compassion. Honesty. Fairness. Trustworthiness. Respect for others. If those things are not the bedrocks of your life, you will suffer for their absence in time."
Palestinian Group Says No Deal to Free BBC Reporter (Reuters)
A Palestinian militant group holding BBC reporter Alan Johnston said on Sunday there was no deal to free the Briton abducted in Gaza three months ago and said he would only be released if its demands were met. "Freeing this detainee has not been part of any deal with any faction or organization," a man identified as a spokesman for the Army of Islam in Gaza told Al Jazeera television.
Mark Burnett's Reality Shows Go Flat (Mediaweek)
Few analysts question the staying power of nonscripted programming in general, but subpar ratings for Pirate Master and On the Lot may suggest that viewers are at least tiring of contest shows. "The market is clearly saturated," said John Rash, Campbell Mithun's chief broadcast negotiator. "So there needs to be the emergence of a new take on reality."
