Elizabeth Spiers: If nothing else, Brown understands and is innately interested in power and powerful people. She also indisputably knows how to do long-form narrative. Any concerns about her ostensible lack of knowledge in the business and finance departments are mitigated by the fact that the current regime seems to understand so little about those subjects that Brown would have nowhere to go but up.
Dow Jones VP Paul Ingrassa to Resign (Reuters)
Dow Jones & Co Vice President Paul Ingrassia said on Monday he plans to quit, making him the first top executive to leave since News Corp said it would buy The Wall Street Journal publisher. "I will be leaving probably after the first of the year," Ingrassia said in a brief phone interview. "There just didn't seem to be an appropriate place for me in the company."
Rather Needles CBS, But Says He Thinks Katie's Job Is Safe (NYP)
Dan Rather says he was perplexed that Katie Couric's staffers were reduced to dancing to Michael Jackson's "Thriller" at a bizarre CBS Evening News pep rally held by executive producer Rick Kaplan last week. "To say I'm surprised would be understated," the former anchor told Fox News Channel's "Your World." "But if they think it will help them, God bless them."

Star reports (quoting unidentified sources and unnamed friends) that Vieira already wants to jump ship. "Meredith told me she's already planning her exit strategy so she can leave Today with her dignity intact," Star quotes a pal. "For her, it's been a noble experiment that hasn't worked as well as she had hoped."
