Malcolm Browne, AP Vietnam War Correspondent, Dies at 81 (The Washington Post)
Malcolm Browne, the correspondent who took the iconic burning-monk photo, died Monday at a New Hampshire hospital at age 81. The photos he took appeared on front pages around the globe and sent shudders all the way to the White House, prompting President John F. Kennedy to order a re-evaluation of his administration’s Vietnam policy.
Patriot-News, Post-Standard Will Reduce Print Frequency to Three Days a Week (Poynter)
The Harrisburg Patriot-News, which won a Pulitzer Prize for its coverage of the Penn State scandal, and The Syracuse, N.Y., Post-Standard are following their corporate sibling the New Orleans Times-Picayune to a reduced printing schedule. Beginning in January 2013, the Patriot-News will print on Sundays and two other days that "will be determined after gathering input from readers and advertisers," an unbylined article reports.
Madavor Media Acquires The Writer Lit Mag (GalleyCat)
Madavor Media, a niche-focused media company based in Boston, has acquired the literary magazine The Writer, in a deal whose terms were not disclosed. Through the deal, Madavor has gained the rights to the print, Web and digital properties of the magazine from Midwestern media company Kalmbach Publishing.
