Newsweek Taps Kos As '08 Contributor (HuffPo)
Newsweek has just announced that Markos Moulitsas, namesake and founder of the Daily Kos Web site, will be a contributor for the mag's 2008 election coverage. "We have always sought to represent a diversity of views in Newsweek, and we think Markos will be a great part of that tradition," said Newsweek editor Jon Meacham in a statement.
TV Guide Canceling Online Video Awards Ceremony (NewTeeVee)
TV Guide is canceling its December online video awards ceremony and television special. The decision was made due to a feeling that celebrating online video would be insensitive at a time when television writers are on strike, according to a source involved with the awards show.
Amid Grumbling, Times Lands New Media Reporter (NYO)
After an exhaustive search, The New York Times has found its new corporate media reporter: Fortune's Tim Arango will begin work next month. Arango will take over the Times beat vacated this summer by Richard Siklos, who left the paper for Fortune. "It's about time we finally hired someone," said a reporter. "It's taken such a long time and there was a lot of frustration here."
Barry Bonds Poses 'Sportsman of the Year' Conundrum for SI (Marketwatch)
Jon Friedman: Because the steroids scandal still circles over his head like a vulture, Bonds would be a very unpopular choice at first blush. I know what you're thinking, dear reader: Case closed, then. Normally, such a lack of appeal would be an immediate deal-breaker. But in the world of publishing and awards, this is actually a boon because controversy = free publicity.
NBC News Wins Ratings Race This Week. Hat Tip: SNL? (HuffPo)
An answer to the question of whether hosting Saturday Night Live would bring ratings magic to Brian Williams, host anchor of NBC Nghtly News: Yes! Almost a million more people tuned in to the broadcast last week than the week before, with almost half of those in the coveted 25-54 demo making NBC the ratings winner last week.
Court TV to Move Web Trial Content to CNN (Mediaweek)
As part of Time Warner's plan to rebrand Court TV, the company is making a number of major changes to the network's online business, eliminating 16 Web staffers and shifting all digital trial content to CNN.com. In a memo to Court TV staffers, general manager Marc Juris said that the new truTV.com site will be a "destination, with an abundance of video content and materials exclusive to the Web."
