Putin Is 'Man of the Year' (Time)
Putin has played his hand well. As Prime Minister, he is set to see out the rest of the drama of Russia's re-emergence. And almost no one in Russia is in a position to stop him. Although violence made up 47 out of every 100 stories covered on television and in newspapers, it took up only 27 percent of the air time or print space through the end of October.
Kristol, Krauthammer Are Out of Time (NYO)
Two conservative Time magazine columnists are on their way out the door: Neither William Kristol nor longtime contributor Charles Krauthammer will be on contract with the magazine starting next month. Krauthammer confirmed the news, and a spokeswoman for Time said Kristol's contract would not be renewed.
Baby Boy for CNN's Campbell Brown (People)
Anchor Campbell Brown and her husband Dan Senor welcomed their first child, a boy, on Tuesday. "Eli and his mom are doing great," Dan Senor says. "We are thrilled." Brown kicks off a mini baby boom at CNN: Morning anchor Kiran Chetry is expecting her second child.
NBC to Use Cable, International Shows (WSJ)
With the Hollywood writers strike cutting off traditional supply lines for new scripted television shows, NBC executives said yesterday that they will fill out the network's prime-time schedule with reruns from sibling cable network USA and with shows that are being produced outside the U.S., with staffs of "international writers" independent of the Writers Guild of America.
