Murdoch Sets Out 'Optimistic' Vision for News International (Guardian)
James Murdoch, the new head of News International, has vowed to "set the pace" in the newspaper industry and promised to decide on the new location for its headquarters "in the new year". The new chairman and chief executive, Europe and Asia, of News International parent company News Corporation, has told staff at the newspaper publisher's Wapping HQ in London that "in the business of ideas" few companies are as well-positioned as News International.
Amazon.com Has Strong Holiday Season (BusinessWeek)
Amazon.com Inc. said Wednesday its 2007 holiday season was its strongest to date, with Nintendo Wii game systems and the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix DVD among its top-selling products. The online retailer said it sold about 17 Nintendo Wiis per second when the product was available.
Lucky EIC Gets Half-Mil. Advance (NYP)
Kim France, editor-in-chief of Lucky, scored a nice fat advance for a new book based on the magazine with Gotham Books at Penguin. Sources say the advance is $500,000. William Shinker, publisher of Gotham, three years ago published the first Lucky book, The Lucky Shopping Manual, and it sold 185,000 copies at $30 a book.
Clemens Will Talk to Reporters (NYT)
The lead attorney for Roger Clemens said Tuesday night that he and other attorneys working for his firm have begun their own investigation into allegations that link Clemens to the use of steroids and human growth hormone. In addition, Rusty Hardin said Clemens plans on meeting with members of the media on Jan. 6, the same night an interview with Mike Wallace is scheduled to air on CBS' 60 Minutes.
NTT Japans's Top Mobile Phone Carrier, Google to Tie-up (BusinessWeek)
NTT DoCoMo will join with Internet search engine Google to provide Internet search and email services on the company's handsets, news reports said Tuesday. Starting as early as the spring, users will be able to access Google search, email, scheduling, and photo-saving features through NTT DoCoMo's i-Mode Internet network, Japan's main business daily The Nikkei said, without identifying its sources.
