Rosenthal's Legacy Will Live On (NY Sun)
"Abe Rosenthal loomed large in my life for four decades," writes Pranay Gupte. "Just as no day goes by when I do not think of my parents and the lovely childhood they created for me in Bombay, no day goes by when I do not think of Abe and the wonderful career in American journalism that he gifted me." Forbes: "He was unfailingly right about almost every aspect of the world he reported on and whose agenda he wound up determining every time the presses rumbled to life in the basement of 229 W. 43rd St.," writes David A. Andelman. NYO: Rosenthal inspired more admiration, emulation and vilification than any other journalist of his generation. HuffPo: "If Abe Rosenthal was executive editor of the New York Times today, he probably would not last very long," writes Bernard Weinraub. Slate: Rosenthal an "ugly genius." NYT: "Yes, the man liked to break china sometimes over the head of an editor or a reporter but his journalistic daring and the passion he wore on his sleeve are still so compelling to me, especially today, when newsrooms resemble sterile insurance companies," writes Thomas Friedman.
