French magazine Airbrushes Sarkozy's 'Love Handles' (Yahoo!)
The French magazine Paris Match touched up a photograph taken of President Nicolas Sarkozy during his US vacation to get rid of some unattractive rolls of flesh around his waist, according to the weekly l'Express on Thursday. Sources said Sarkozy's "seated position on the boat accentuated the bulge" and that "the correction was made during the print."
NY Post Editor Col Allen Is a Master of Media and mayhem (Newsweek/The Bulletin)
Megan Lehmann: Those of us who've been out drinking with Col Allan in New York City know that born-to-be-mild Kevin Rudd never stood a chance. The captain of that rascally pirate ship known as the New York Post famously likes a drink or seven gutsy shiraz is a favorite and he also likes company.
Fotolog Acquired, Reported $100M Price Said a Shade High (Silicon Alley Insider)
Photo-sharing site/social network Fotolog has been acquired, a source familiar with the deal confirms. Valleywag reported that Fotolog fetched more than $100 million from a "large Latin American company." Our source suggests that figure is a bit high. Fotolog recently hit the 10 million member mark, with its user base predominantly located in Europe and Latin America.
Going for the Throat: Boston Herald Sets Record for Vampire Puns (The Phoenix)
Carly Carioli: The first rule of tabloids is, if you can get the words "Vampire," "Killer," and "Blood" above the fold, increase your point size by 20. The Herald dutifully followed this advice to the letter, but that was just the beginning. The real beauty was how they managed to cram not one but three grade-Z bloodsucker puns into its front-page hype.
Stay-At-Home Media Mom (Forbes.com)
James Brady: It's always a good story: A talented young mother gets off the Manhattan fast-track to stay home with the kids and still manages to craft a successful media career. She'll promote her new book, I Wear the Maternity Pants in This Family, while serving as a village trustee of their riverbank town, broadcasting live 10 hours a week, writing columns, and raising four kids, aged 2 to 13. How do I know all this? Full disclosure: In civilian life, Susan is one of my daughters.
His Story Won't Die (LAT)
Patt Morrison: Journalists around the world are murdered with dispiriting frequency, to silence them and to intimidate other reporters. According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, of the more than 600 journalists killed in the last 15 years, most were covering corruption, human rights, politics or crime not war. Killing a reporter is akin to killing a judge or a police officer. You're not just murdering the person, you're attacking the role: the robe, the badge, the notebook, the camera.
