Rumors were flying this morning that Los Angeles Times publisher and CEO David Hiller was about to be shown the door by Zell and Co. and now it's official. Following last week's announcement that the LA Times plans to cut 250 jobs by the end of the summer comes word that the Chicago Tribune will also be scaling back on both employees and pages.

Apparently the new Tribune Co. owner is no fan of the Democratic party. E&P notes that on CNBC's Squawk Box on Tuesday, Sam Zell "attributed much of the current economic woes to fear-mongering by Democratic foes Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.
