Richard Powell Jr., Burson-Marsteller’s worldwide COO and chair of the firm’s global corporate practice, is heading to Bloomberg to serve as that company’s chief communications officer.
Powell will oversee Bloomberg’s comms strategy and infrastructure as it expands in both new and existing markets. He will report to Bloomberg’s head of government relations and public affairs, Kevin Sheekey.
Burson’s statement, which talks about who will be handling Powell’s responsibilities, is after the jump.
We offer our congratulations to Rick Powell, who will be leaving Burson-Marsteller in mid-January to join Bloomberg LP as that company’s first Global Chief Communications Officer. Rick has played many key roles at our firm during his time as COO. He has been a trusted counselor to CEO Mark Penn. Rick has also helped lead and grow our relationship with several key global clients. Burson-Marsteller starts 2011 on its strongest upward trajectory in recent memory and we think that momentum is in no small part due to his contributions. While we are all sorry to see Rick go, his new senior role at one of the world’s premier private companies speaks volumes both about him and the cachet the Burson-Marsteller brand continues to carry in the marketplace.
Rick’s responsibilities will be distributed to what we believe is the best management team in the industry, headed by our two vice chairs Don Baer and Karen Hughes, new EVP Jay Leveton, our regional CEOs, and able CFO and WW HR team. And we will continue to look for the best talent anywhere.
