Can Calcium Increase Your Lifespan?

According to new research, there may be a link between calcium consumption and living longer, states a representative from Lane Labs. As a leader in the nutritional supplement industry, Lane Labs understands the important role that calcium plays in bone health and well being.
The study, published in the Endocrine Society’s Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, was based on data from a large-scale Canadian Multicenter Osteoporosis Study that monitored the health of 9,033 Canadians between 1995 and 2007. Female participants who took calcium supplements daily seemed to have a lower risk of death.
Although these are the findings from an observational study and more research remains to be done, researchers believe that the study’s results show an important link between daily calcium intake and longer lifespans. It is certainly accurate to say that calcium is a vital mineral, and does help support a healthy lifestyle.
While many people are aware of how important calcium is in promoting healthy bones and teeth, some may not realize that calcium is essential for the healthy function of many other things, a representative from Lane Labs explains.
For example, according to WebMD, calcium serves to strengthen and improve heart rhythm and muscle function. Doctors use the mineral to help control high levels of magnesium, phosphorus, and potassium in the blood as well. Almost every cell in the human body uses calcium in some way, as The University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health reports.
Moreover, Tammy Worth, a contributor for Health Magazine, shares that calcium supplements can help maintain healthy blood pressure. It is also used in many products that help control heartburn.
Additionally, calcium may be beneficial in maintaining a healthy weight. In a British Journal of Nutrition study, obese women who consumed less than 600 milligrams of calcium daily went a diet and took either a placebo or a 1,200-milligram calcium supplement every day. The study revealed that the women taking the placebo lost only two pounds while the women taking the supplement lost about 13 pounds.
Women typically have the most difficulty getting enough calcium on a daily basis, explains Lane Labs, which offers AdvaCAL bone building calcium supplements specifically for women or men.
It can also be easy to get calcium from the foods you eat. The U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) recommends calcium intake of 1,000 to 1,300 milligrams a day for those who are over nine years of age. For example, foods like broccoli, spinach, milk (including soy milk), cheeses, and calcium-fortified cereals are all excellent sources of calcium.
New research such as the lifespan study in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism suggests that calcium offer multiple benefits for healthy function of the human body. As a frontrunner in the field, Lane Labs encourages the public, and especially adult women, to do what is necessary to get their recommended amount of calcium daily.
