Comm. Pros Advise on VP Debate

In advance of tonight’s Vice Presidential debate in St. Louis, media trainers and communications professionals are offering up advice and expertise, mostly for Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who has become somewhat of a walking blooper reel after interviews with Katie Couric and Charlie Gibson.
“It’s a cliche to say expectations are low for Sarah Palin,” University of Miami Communications Professor David L. Steinberg told the Arizona Republic. “Her strength is when she’s confident,” he said. “I suspect there may be too many advisers giving her too much material. She should keep it simple.”
“Theoretically, he [Biden] should wipe the floor with her — unless he pulls his punches because she’s a woman,” communications coach LeeAundra Temescu told AM-NY. “He might. From what I understand, he’s a very old-school gentleman.”
The McCain campaign is certainly hoping Palin weathers the storm, especially as all the major polls show them sharply losing ground to Obama/Biden.
