Consumer Reports Launches Holiday Public Education Campaign

The ads! The promotions! The mall traffic! As part of their holiday public education campaign, Consumer Reports will reveal the results of a survey highlighting, “the top holiday-shopping annoyances.”
The organization is relying on a full page ad in tomorrow’s USA Today, but is also working with three P.R. firms to get the word out: Attention, Catalyst and The Rosen Group. “We want to stir the pot and open up conversation with the retailing community,” said Ken Weine, VP Communications, Consumer Reports.
“Our role at Consumer Reports is to make the marketplace a better and safer place for consumers. So many messages during the holiday season are from the retail community to spend, and our message is to spend wisely,” he said. Consumer Reports acquired the blog Consumerist earlier this year and Weine said that it’s a “special thing” for the 73-year-old organization to have the “vibrancy” of that blog.
