Consumers Longing for Longevity

Right now, “longevity” and “durability” might be the best qualities to emphasize in your pitches.

According to this New York Times story, people are hanging on to their gadgets until they die, using every drop of soap in the bottle, and driving their cars even when a newer, flashier model is available.

It’s not the stuff of your grandma’s post-Depression days, but consumers aren’t so quick to jump at the latest and greatest as a result of the economic downturn and analysts are saying it could have a long-lasting impact.

‘NY Mag’ Site Knows What You’re Waiting For

New York Magazine’s Vulture.com is launching the Vulture Anticipation Index, which will measure the advanced buzz on pop culture happenings, like books and movies.

The Index will measure chatter across blogs and Twitter using a proprietary algorithm. This is only for advanced buzz, so once something actually happens or is released, it’ll be taken off the list. Here’s a screenshot with the top five this afternoon.

Jay Carney Will Be Taking Questions Monday Afternoon

White House spokesperson Dan Pfeiffer announced today that Jay Carney will be taking over the @PressSec Twitter handle. The account has been silent since January 28. If his press briefing yesterday is any indication, Carney on Twitter will be all kinds of wild and crazy. “Scribes delighted,” Fishbowl DC writes, in Carney’s decision to jump around the briefing room to take questions, rather than sticking with Robert Gibbs’ pattern of going row by row.

Producer Changes at ‘GMA’ and ‘Nightline’
