Edelman Acquires Dutch Firm

Edelman has made its third acquisition in recent weeks: Hinfelaar PR, a Dutch firm specializing in health and food communications. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. Hinfelaar brings seven PR pros to the firm’s Netherlands operation, which has about 4.2 million Euros in revenues and 50 staff members.

Hinfelaar’s client roster includes Boehringer Ingelheim, and the firm already supports some of Edelman’s clients, such as AstraZeneca and Novartis. Marc Hinfelaar, which founded his namesake firm in 1998, will join the Edelman Amsterdam management team and lead the consumer, health, and food teams at the Amsterdam and Baarn offices. Edelman Amsterdam clients include Starbucks, PepsiCo, and MerckSerono.

“Part of the firm’s strategy is to deepen our existing capabilities by acquiring and integrating¬†superb small-to-mid sized PR firms with complementary services that we don’t currently have in an existing Edelman market,” Edelman SVP of global communications wrote in an e-mail.

Other acquisitions this year were Vollmer in Texas and Significa in Brazil last month, and The Centre in Brussels, earlier this year.

Unlike most of the large holding companies, Edelman does not acquire firms to operate them as separate entities.¬† The acquired firm’s founders all have a history of staying with Edelman and building their professional careers here,” Smith added.

As an example, she cites Patrick McGuire, whose firm WHAM was acquired 10 years ago. McGuire has established Ruth.
