mediabistro threw a party in midtown Manhattan last night for BusinessWeek veteran tech reporter Steve Baker to celebrate his book, "The Numerati." Described as, "A captivating look at how a global math elite is predicting and altering our behavior -- at work, at the mall, and in bed," Baker reflected on the party today on his blog:

But those people at the party last night, more than 100 of them by my estimation, were participating in the book in their way. They came to the party. Others participate by reading an excerpt, a review, listening to a podcast, even talking about it at a dinner party or reading this blog. In all those ways, people can join in. And the goal, I think, is to reach out to make that group as big as possible.

Among those in attendance were BusinessWeek Executive Editor and Editor-in-Chief of BusinessWeek.com John A. Byrne, who told us he "loves using Twitter" and is up to more than 4,000 followers. There are also additional plans underway for Business Exchange, BusinessWeek's online learning center and content aggregator of sorts, although Byrne said he couldn't give us all of the details just quite yet.

Back to Baker, of course we had to ask him about his recent post, "Freak out: Twitter infested by PR". While he obviously sees the value of Twitter, he wasn't shy in admitting, "when you write about PR you get a lot of traffic."
