It gives me great pleasure to announce that Kelli Halyard has been promoted to Executive Director, Communications, CBS News, effective immediately.

Many if not most of you have worked with Kelli during her 14-year career at CBS News. She has handled publicity for almost every show in the Division and daily brings to bear her broad institutional knowledge to help communicate about this network and the talented people in front of and behind the camera. Kelli actively participates in strategically communicating CBS News’ brand and reputation and provides valuable counsel to executives, producers, reporters and anchors. Her strong relationships with reporters on the TV beat and with gossip writers have been, and continue to be, invaluable.

Kelli has been lead spokesperson on a variety of announcements, conventions, political debates and, of course, the occasional crisis as well. She has provided on-the-record information to reporters during virtually every major news story in the past fourteen years – including Princess Diana’s death, President Clinton’s impeachment, the Abu Ghraib prison abuse scandal, Hurricane Katrina, and the election of President Barack Obama. During the 2008 political conventions, she created a website that was named the best new political site by Politico.

During her tenure at THE EARLY SHOW, Kelli has adapted to the early morning wake-up calls, always maintaining her signature calm demeanor and dry wit. Ready to do whatever it takes to get the show attention, Kelli was gracious enough to take part in the program’s recent baby boom and shortly will be taking maternity leave.

After interning with CBS News in 1994, Kelli came on board full time in 1996. She continued working here while earning a Masters degree in Journalism from Columbia University in 2003.

Please join me in congratulating Kelli on her promotion.
