Now newly-elected Mayor Rahm Emanuel knows who @MayorEmanuel, his Twitter alter ego, is.

It’s Dan Sinker, a professor at Columbia College and founder of CellStories.net, a site that publishes for mobile devices. He’s also founder of a now-defunct punk magazine, Punk Planet, which played a role in his tweets. The Atlantic has a lengthy post detailing his identity and background.

For the most part, it sounds like Sinker is a writer with a singular voice who lives in a city with a singular politician. We’ve talked about crisis comms responses plenty of times. It’s interesting to recognize that, profanity-laced and all, this wasn’t a crisis for the real Mayor Emanuel, and ultimately, his philanthropic response was the right one.
