‘NYT’ Is Tops On Twitter By A Wide Margin

Traditional media is all over the Twitter. But the New York Times (@nytimes), with 2,668,948 fans, tops the list of leading U.S. newspapers ranked by Twitter followers, according to Journalistics.

At number two is the Chicago Tribune (scroll to the bottom for the update), which has a combined 845,000 followers on its two fan pages, @chicagotribune and @ColonelTribune. The Wall Street Journal (@wsj) is number three with 464,591.

The story does take into account that the numbers may have changed since they were first gathered, but the lead that the NYT has is still striking. “Maybe The New York Times has such a huge Twitter following because it was the first of the Top 25 to join Twitter, way back in March 2, 2007,” the story says.
