Our Favorite NYSE Opening: Darth Vader!

Ringing the opening and closing bells at the New York Stock Exchange is a time honored publicity tactic. However, yesterday’s opening bell ringing is perhaps our favorite. From the Associated Press:

Darth Vader and a number of Storm Troopers from the Star Wars Saga rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange. They, along with R2-D2, were there as representatives of Lucasfilm Ltd.

Things have changed a lot since last fall, when some PR pros were declining invites for their clients to ring the bell due to the financial meltdown. At the time, one PR pro likened ringing the bell to “being asked to blow the foghorn on the Titanic.”
