Pittsburgh Gets Good Press Around G-20 Summit

The city of Pittsburgh is busy remaking its image from forgotten industrial city to revitalized hub with a focus on the health care, education and technology industries. With the G-20 Summit of world leaders in town this week, the city is getting its biggest “15-minutes” in quite some time.

Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl told local TV station KDKA, “I’ve done numerous interviews throughout the last couple of weeks, and the first question they always ask is ‘Why Pittsburgh?’ It gives us a chance to tell that message — about the transformation of this region, about the good things that are happening here.”

While increasingly large protests during the Summit have affected local businesses, they pale in comparison to protests at the World Trade Organization meeting in Seattle in 1999, which are generally considered to be some of the largest protests at any U.S. event tied to economics or globalization.
