Sun-Times Silences Its Spokesperson

This is Tammy Chase‘s last week as spokesperson for Sun-Times Media. Recently, she has spent a lot of her time responding to inquiries about “efficiencies” (a.k.a. layoffs) at the company. Now she’s been laid off. The company’s CEO, Jeremy Halbreich, will now be filling Chase’s shoes.

The Chicago Reader takes a closer look at Chase’s professional bio (she started as a reporter) and how she ended up speaking on behalf of a company that became embroiled in the Conrad Black trial, filed for bankruptcy, and has cut a large portion of its staff.

“From Britain. Canada, of course. I was getting hundreds of calls a week—about 50-50 investors to media. It was a shitstorm,” Chase says when describing the inquiries she received during the trial. (Black is now suggesting that he’ll return to media in some capacity.)

Her last job for the company: discussing the drop in circ numbers that the Audit Bureau of Circulations announced this week.
