Absolut to Distribute 4 Million Absolutely Unique Bottles of Vodka

Since today happens to be the Friday before Labor Day weekend, you’re probably already dreaming of sunshine, barbecues, and cocktails sipped on decks. In that spirit (pun intended), we thought we’d share this bit of boozed-up marketing news.

According to AdAge, Absolut is gearing up to distribute 4 million individually numbered, completely unique bottles across 80 markets including the the U.S., China, France, the U.K., and Germany. The individualized designs use 38 different colors and 51 pattern types, and making them required a complete re-engineering of the company’s production plant in Sweden.

The process, which has been described as “carefully orchestrated randomness,” involved everything from splash guns to pattern algorithms. Jonas Tahiln, VP-global marketing for The Absolut Co., said of the process, “Absolut Unique feels a bit mad scientist, a bit street art…When the bottles first appeared on the conveyer belt, we cheered. Cee Lo has tweeted himself into trouble after he published a post in response to a negative review of his Minneapolis performance last Thursday.

The controversy also comes as Absolut, the vodka brand, prepares to debut a film starring Cee Lo on its Facebook page.

According to Mashable, Cee Lo wrote, then deleted, a post that read: “I respect your criticism, but be fair! People enjoyed last night! I’m guessing you’re gay? And my masculinity offended you? Well f**k you!”

Cee Lo has apologized broadly for the comments and specifically to members of his team on the hit show The Voice.

According to Absolut, the film is part of the brand’s tradition for collaborating with creative types, like Jay-Z, who also has a film on the page.

America’s Beer of Choice Is…

Sam Adams! Bud and Bud Light take the numbers two and three spots.

The folks at YouGov BrandIndex crunched the numbers to determine the number one beer choice across the country and in three major cities. With the exception of Chicago, which prefers Heineken (and doesn’t like America or St. Patrick’s Day), Sam Adams was tops with taste buds in the U.S.

For this research, YouGov took a look at scores from the past four weeks. These scores are based on the perceptions of U.S. adults of drinking age. Each day, YouGov interviews 5,000 people for their thoughts on a variety of topics.

The company also looked at spirit preferences. Check it out after the jump.
