Roll Call: Edelman, Weber Shandwick, Antenna Group and More

Edelman PR has named Julianna Richter chief operating officer for Edelman U.S. effective March 25. In this role, Richter, a 13-year veteran of Edelman, will have management and operational responsibility for the West Coast, Southeast and Southwest regions and establish a U.S.-wide knowledge management system. She will report to Mark Hass, president and CEO of Edelman U.S. Richter was previously head of the firm’s Global Client Relationship Management (GCRM) program, which will now be led by Lisa Sepulveda, also effective March 25. Weber Shandwick promoted Tara Murphy to the new role of executive vice president for strategy in the New England region. Based in Boston, Murphy will continue leading the healthcare practice, and will also bring her expertise as a strategist to clients across industries. Additionally, Murphy is co-leading a Healthcare Reform Team to help clients navigate the dramatic changes that are reshaping healthcare. A seven-year veteran of Weber Shandwick, Murphy joined the firm with more than 15 years of experience in broadcast journalism and politics. She held a number of senior editorial positions at WBUR National Public Radio in Boston, including senior producer for the award-winning NPR talk show The Connection, and managing editor for the national news magazine Here and Now. Roll Call: Walmart Exec Joins H+K, Groupon Exec Joins Weber, and More

George Shelton has been named SVP at Hill + Knowlton Strategies, leading the reputation management and corporate practice starting February 15. Shelton was previously senior director for insights, advocacy, and outreach for Walmart, a role focused on the company’s commercial goals and public policy programs. In this new role, he’ll be based in Austin and focused on CSR, messaging, reputation management, and media outreach.

Brad Williams, previously the global comms VP for Groupon, has joined Weber Shandwick as head of the North American technology practice. He’ll be based in Sunnyvale, CA and report to Heidi Sinclair, president of the global tech group. Williams also has experience working with eBay, Yahoo!, and VeriSign. He stepped down from his post at Groupon in August 2011.

Renewable Energy Presents PR Opportunities

Energy issues are top of mind in Congress. With gas prices creeping close to $4 per gallon everyone is looking for an alternative. President Obama most recently called for an end to subsidies for oil companies in order to raise investment in clean energy technology.

Antenna Group, a San Francisco-based clean tech firm, has seen its business in solar energy climb over the past decade. The firm now has nearly 50 clients in the energy space and just recently opened a new office. According to SVP and GM Caroline Venza, increased efficiencies and a decline in price for solar energy will fuel its continued growth. Moreover, she told us that there are “huge opportunities for many kinds of communications around this.”

Roll Call: Microsoft, Alcoa, Lane PR, and More

Microsoft has a new SVP of consumer channels and the Central Marketing Group: Chris Capossela. Capossela replaces Mich Mathews, who announced last week that she would be stepping down. Capossela was previously the SVP of the Office division, which houses Office, SharePoint, and other product lines. In this role, he also oversaw the launches of Office 2007 and 2010. [via TechCrunch]

Dina Shapiro has been named director of marcomms and branding at Alcoa. She will lead marketing strategy across the country and around the world. She was most recently the SVP of brand strategy at Citibank. Shapiro has 18 years of marketing experience including work with advertising firms JWT and BBDO.
