17 Firms That the New York Observer ‘Top 50′ List Missed

NYO LOGO

Ye Olde New York Observer is known to be a publication that’s relatively friendly to PR pros who aren’t named Mark Penn. One prominent executive regularly publishes op-eds in its pages!

In case you missed it, the paper revealed its list of The Big Apple’s Top 50 PR Firms yesterday. The feature was extensive; beyond the basic list it included a “9 people to watch” slideshow and other little profiles shedding a bit of light on the people who make this industry run.

For the record, everyone who made the list deserves a spot on it. The people of #1 pick Sunshine Sachs always invite us to their holiday parties.

Still, this being a list, it did fail to mention a few worthy firms…sort of like those SEO trick “top entertainment PR” posts that show up in our Google alerts every week.

Back in September, we thought of a few people off the top of our heads who didn’t make the Business Insider “top tech firms” list. Now let’s do the same for the Observer group.

Late last year, the progenitors of fast-casual food with a little added integrity decided that, because the burrito business has done them a solid for a minute, it was time to bring the Chipotle mania to another sector: pizza.

Much to the chagrin of the little box delivery chains across this great land of ours, Chipotle’s presence on the pizza scene is a legitimate threat. And although there are no holes to shoot in Chipotle’s dough, the burrito giants have decided to throw down.

Almost a year later, here’s the shot fired: Pizza people, you’re doing it wrong!

Konami Digital Entertainment named L.A./New York/San Fran agency Bender/Helper Impact as its North American PR AOR.

This isn’t the first time the two parties have worked together. Bender/Helper, which has developed a specialty in the gaming sector, also represented Konami in North America from 1997 to 2011, helping to promote classics like Metal Gear Solid and DanceDanceRevolution.

The new signing came right after Konami announced a new president, and the agency will work to increase awareness of new and forthcoming sequels to those very classics: Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, DanceDanceRevolution: Classroom Edition, etc.

While we’re slightly disappointed to see no new Contra titles on the list, we do appreciate the impossibility of improving upon perfection.
