Disney Comms Assistant Sentenced to House Arrest

Bonnie Hoxie, the former assistant to Disney head of corporate communications, has been sentenced to four months of home confinement for passing along Disney earnings info to her co-conspirator Yonni Sebagg.

The two were caught by FBI agents trying to sell the information to hedge funds. Hoxie avoided jail while her accomplice is serving more than two years in federal prison.

The lawyer for Yonni Sebag, who pleaded guilty with his accomplice Bonnie Hoxie for attempting to sell confidential financial information about Walt Disney’s earnings, has asked the court that his client be sentenced to time served. “This hare-brained scheme was obviously doomed to fail from the start,” wrote his attorney in a letter to the judge. Hoxie was the assistant to Disney’s corp comms chief Zenia Mucha. She will be sentenced on February 22.

Disney Corp Comms Assistant Pleads Guilty

Bonnie Hoxie, former assistant to Walt Disney corporate communications head Zenia Mucha, has pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit securities fraud and wire fraud and one count of wire fraud. Part of the plea agreement calls for four to 10 months in jail when she’s sentenced on December 21. Hoxie’s arrest in May with her boyfriend Yonni Sebbag made front page news. According to Bloomberg, Hoxie admitted to passing information about Disney’s earnings to Sebbag, who pleaded guilty to wire fraud and conspiracy charges in August.

Disney Corp. Comm. Staffer Arrested for Insider Trading

Bonnie Hoxie, executive assistant to Disney head of corporate communications Zenia Mucha, has been arrested and charged with insider trading.

Hoxie used her access to attempt to sell information to hedge funds that Disney was in talks to sell its ABC network. In emails to hedge funds, Hoxie and an accomplice wrote:

Hi, I have access to DISNEY’S (DIS) quarterly earnings report before its release on 5/3/10. I am willing to share this information for a fee that we can determine later. I am sorry but I can’t disclose my identity for confidentiality reasons but we can correspond by email if you would like to discuss it. I count on your discretion as you can count on mine.

“Today’s arrests…suggest that the integrity of the securities exchanges can be compromised not only by top executives, but also by anyone entrusted with material, non-public information,” Preet Bharara, the U.S. Attorney in Manhattan told The Wall Street Journal.
