Roll Call: William and Kate, APCO Worldwide, Grace Blue, and More

The Royal Children and the Duchess of Cambridge have hired an American to handle their PR. More specifically, Kate Middleton, Prince William and Prince Harry tapped Jason Knaus, previously head of PR at the Royal Bank of Scotland, to manage their communications as their first stateside trip approaches. Knaus doesn’t begin until the new year, but we’d suggest that his first action should be moving to quash all those stories about the ridiculous dress code for journalists who want to interview the Brits. APCO Worldwide chose the right time to make a big announcement: international president Brad Staples will assume the CEO role in January and founder/current CEO Margery Kraus will be executive chairman.

Two other changes will take place effective January 5th: Evan Kraus (that’s Margery’s son) will be the company’s president and managing director of operations while Neal Cohen will be vice chairman of the board and head of global client strategy. The elder Kraus writes, “Brad, Evan and Neal represent the very best of APCO – deep global perspectives, understanding of the changing communications landscape and commitment to providing the very best thinking to our clients.”

Telefónica Digital, a unit of the Spanish telecom company Telefónica, has chosen Access Communications and Bite Communications after a competitive review. Bite will head things up on the global level and Access will handle North American PR with special attention on Silicon Valley where the company has its venture capital and global partnership groups. H&R Block has hired Shift Communications for content strategy, specifically the company’s Block Talk blog. On the blog now, an infographic from the company’s Stache Act campaign, included in this morning’s Ticker.  [via]

Marcomms company EOS has added six clients to its roster: the city of Dunwoody, G.A.; Dunwoody’s Convention and Visitor’s Bureau; Higher Ground, an initiative launched by Atlanta faith leaders; Millbridge, a new community outside of Charlotte, N.C.; Soleil Laurel Canyon, an adult community outside of Atlanta; and coaching and executive development company Turknett Leadership Group.

Kraft Foods is seeking a firm as it prepares to spin off its snacks business, which is worth $31 billion. Brands include Oreo and Cadbury. The Holmes Report says five agencies are being considered; they will be making presentations to Kraft in London on Monday focused on product launches and snacking behavior. The decision will be made within two months.

Calysto Communications has been hired to provide global PR, social media, and media relations services to network performance management company SevOne. The firm will target Southeast Asia and Australia, Europe, North America, Latin America, and South Africa with its efforts. [via]

Nutrisystem has chosen Impression PR Partners as its AOR after a review. Impression Partners is a relatively new firm. [via PRWeek] *

Ad Age is reporting that P&G has moved its Gillette account from Porter Novelli to Ketchum after a competitive review. PN had been Gillette’s agency for the past 20 years. The review was reported in August. Ketchum will work closely with ad agency BBDO. Other P&G firms in the U.S. are MSLGroup and DeVries (Publicis and IPG firms, respectively), Paine PR, Marina Maher Communications, and Taylor.

Euro RSCG Worldwide PR has been chosen as AOR for Stand Up for Heroes, a celebrity fundraising event benefiting wounded U.S. servicemen and their families. The Bob Woodruff Foundation and the New York Comedy Festival are partnering for the event for the fifth year. It will be taking place November 9 at 8 p.m. at New York’s Beacon Theater. Jon Stewart and Jim Gaffigan are among those slated to participate.

The 2011 Texas Tennis Open, a WTA event taking place August 20 through 27 in North Texas, has chosen Zelo Public Relations as its AOR. The firm will manage press relations before and during the event.

PRWeek is reporting that BMC Software and Waggener Edstrom are parting ways. WE had been BMC’s AOR for five years. BMC has begun the search for a new firm. WE has chosen not to pitch the business.

MyRegistry.com, the gift registry service, has chosen 5W PR for services including media relations, events, and partnerships.

Bluetext, which launched in February, has added five clients in the past three months: Adobe, Vangent, Ernst & Young, Israeli defense contractor Plasan, and government contractor ITSolutions. For these companies, Bluetext is providing a wide range of services including thought leadership, digital platform development, special events promotion, and overall domestic PR planning.

Sony Electronics has chosen Atomic PR as its AOR PRWeek reports. The firm will work on all PR, digital, and social media programming for a variety of Sony goods including camcorders, PCs, and tablets. The firm was chosen after a review process and is handling the account out of its offices in L.A. and San Francisco.

RingCentral, a cloud-based phone systems company, has selected Atomic PR as its AOR. The work, which will focus on thought leadership and social media outreach, will target small and mid-sized businesses.

Calysto Communications has two new clients. The firm will help Endstream Communications, an international telecomm company, with the launch of StreamDialer, a new product that allows for mobile dialing. Broadvox has also selected the firm for PR and social media marketing services.

The Physicians Foundation, a nonprofit focused on the work of doctors and improved healthcare, has chosen CooperKatz & Co for branding, website development, social media, and other PR services.

Social commerce site Kaboodle has selected The Morris + King Company as its AOR following a competitive review. Kaboodle is owned by Hearst, and provides a community of shoppers with discounts, suggested items, and other shopping info.  At left, one of the items currently on the Kaboodle site, a “bearded beanie.”

The GoNewark Sports & Entertainment Committee has hired MWW Group to promote the GoNewark HoopFest, which brings NCAA basketball to Brick City. The event takes place between March 23rd and 27th. The firm will promote the event as well as encourage ongoing tourism to the city of Newark.

In this edition of Spin the Agencies, everything is digital and wireless.

Weber Shandwick has been selected as global AOR for GSMA, the international association for the mobile comms industry. GSMA’s membership spans 219 countries.

Digital entertainment company Exent has selected RF Binder as its AOR. Work will include raising awareness about the company’s managed service, which is behind Exent’s PC games and the Free Ride Games gaming site.

Global Wireless Solutions has selected Calysto Communications for PR and social media services including media, analyst, and blogger relations. The firm will also provide global outreach to Latin America, Asia, and Europe.

Media Maiden Group has been chosen as AOR for Acqueon Technologies, which produces apps for call centers and communications channels. Acqueon will be launching three new products this year.
